A few days ago I finished my book dummy. I sat back, and thought to myself wow. ok. Well, now what? I’ve never really done this before, so the entire process has felt a bit like a now what? but something about this milestone really feels like I’ve made it through the first castle in Mario, and I’m looking toward something totally new.
On to new worlds; and this next level is totally foreign; it’s in tubes and under the sea.
After taking a few showers, staring out the window, and drinking many strong cups of tea, I’ve decided that the what now, is to let the entire project sit for three weeks (no more, no less). I am not going to touch it again until we get through both of my daughters’ birthdays. After April 8th, I will open the file again, and read the entire thing with a fresh pair of eyes. Inevitably tweak it here and there, and then I’ll start looking for possible publishing opportunities.
So sleep, sleep, sleep. Settle into yourself, and I’ll try to do the same. When April comes I’ll raise the blinds. The sun will shine on your rested face.
